What is Gentle Wave®?

Gentle Wave provides a quick, effective, and virtually pain-free alternative to traditional root canal therapy. It uses a combination of medical-grade disinfectants and broad spectrum acoustic energy to effectively clean your root canals, eliminating infection and preserving your natural teeth.

Thanks to Gentle Wave’s unique treatment approach, it’s possible to preserve more of your natural tooth enamel. That ensures your tooth remains healthy, allowing you to bite and chew confidently.

Who can benefit from treatment with Gentle Wave?

You might benefit from treatment with Gentle Wave if you have damaged or infected tooth pulp. Your pulp contains nerves and blood vessels. It helps you experience temperature sensations like hot and cold but isn’t necessary for a tooth’s survival.

The team at Endodontic Partners of West Alabama uses Gentle Wave to treat various causes of pulp damage, including:

  • Untreated cavities
  • Extensive dental work
  • Chipped or cracked teeth
  • A blow to the mouth

If you experience symptoms like pain in your tooth or swelling and a sensation of heat in your gums, make an appointment at Endodontic Partners of West Alabama right away.

What does root canal therapy with Gentle Wave involve?

At Endodontic Partners of West Alabama, the team performs root canal therapy with Gentle Wave on an outpatient basis. On the day of your procedure, your provider numbs your mouth with a local anesthetic. Then, they carefully remove the decaying or damaged portion of your tooth.

Next, your provider rinses your root canal with the Gentle Wave treatment system. Gentle Wave flushes your root canals of bacteria, infected tissue, and debris, reducing the risk of complications, like reinfection. After cleaning out all of the microscopic spaces, your provider fills your tooth with a material called gutta-percha.

After the gutta-percha dries, your provider takes impressions of your tooth and sends them to a dental laboratory that manufactures a custom crown.

When the lab finishes your custom crown, you return to Endodontic Partners of West Alabama, and your provider bonds it on top of your treated tooth.

Is a root canal with Gentle Wave painful?

Root canal therapy with Gentle Wave is safe and usually well-tolerated. What’s more, the combination of broad-spectrum acoustic energy and disinfecting fluids reduces inflammation. As a result, you’re less likely to experience swelling or sensitivity.
